Our Approach

Despite economic growth and increased cultural recognition and awareness in our Native Hawaiian community, social and economic inequalities continue to increase and communities often lack the skills and resources needed to participate fully in economic development. The Hanai Hawaii Foundation believes that with the right support, the most marginalized and disadvantaged Native Hawaiians in our community can grow and prosper.

The Hanai Hawaii Foundation seeks to work with organizations that meet a clearly defined social need for disadvantaged and low-income Native Hawaiians and show success in implementing interventions that make a positive change. Organizations should be able to demonstrate clarity of purpose, grassroots engagement and empowerment of communities, tangible positive outcomes, cost-effectiveness, accountability and a sustainable approach to the social and economic development of Native Hawaiians.

As part of our due diligence process we assess a range of factors including an organization's governance and organizational structures, financial situation, non-profit status and registration documentation.
